Lady Gaga was born Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta on March 28, 1986 in New York City. She and sister Natali were raised by strict Catholic parents, Cynthia and Joe, and attended Catholic school as children. Her parents now own an Italian restaurant in Manhattan named Joanne Trattoria, after her dad’s sister who passed away from Lupus as a teen. Lady Gaga also named an album in her late aunt’s memory. When her first attempt to launch her musical career failed, Lady Gaga returned to New York where she made a living as a go-go dancer. She got a second crack at fame when Cherrytree Records signed her. Lady Gaga is the voice behind the hit songs “Poker Face,” “Born This Way,” “Paparazzi,” “Bad Romance,” “Million Reasons,” “The Edge of Glory,” and so many more recognizable tunes. Besides her solo albums, Lady Gaga joined forces with the legendary Tony Bennett for “Cheek to Cheek.” The songstress made such a positive impression when she belted out the National Anthem at the 2016 Super Bowl, she was invited back the following year to headline the Halftime Show. In recent years, Lady Gaga has toned down her image, but she will always be known for her crazy, risky costume choices, including her infamous meat dress, which she wore to the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards. Lady Gaga is also a force to be reckoned with on the screen. She won a Golden Globe for Best Actress in “American Horror Story: Hotel” and stars alongside heartthrob Bradley Cooper in the film “A Star is Born.” Lady Gaga and “Chicago Fire” actor Taylor Kinney broke off their engagement in July 2016 after their five year romance. She created the Born This Way Foundation in 2012 to empower youth and is also a vocal advocate for the LGBTQ community. Her fans call themselves “Little Monsters.”
